Skylake out now, MSI and ASRock Z170 Mobos on the shelf!

Intel’s 6th Generation Core series Processors (codename: Skylake) had been announced on Aug. 5, 2015. The Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K processors are available now on the market. And the corresponding motherboards – Z170 are also on the shelf in Taipei’s Guang-Hwa Market. PCDIY! reviewed the Skylake processor and introduced the Z170 mobo with the new LGA 1151 socket.

MSI Z170 mobos: PC Mate, Krait Gaming, Gaming M5, Gaming M7 on the shelf now. The Gaming Pro (not in the photo) is also available now in the computer retail stores.

As to the retail stores, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, ASRock Z170 motherboards are available at CoolPC computer store. You can find out that all models and prices are listed. But currently only MSI and ASRock mobos are in the stock. So let’s check out these mobos first.

MSI Z170 Mobo Family

MSI Z170 mobos are: PC MATE (the blue box), Krait GAMING (the black box), and the GAMING PRO (not available in the photo)/M5/M7 (the red box). PC MATE is for value market, Krait GAMING is for the gamers, and the GAMING series are for professional gamers. MSI guarantees 4-year warranty for all mobos except the PC Mate gives 5-year warranty.

All mobos are made in China. As you can see MSI mobos are equipped with LGA 1151 sockets, 4 DDR4 DIMMs, 2~3 PCI-Express x16 slots, 3~4 PCI-Express x1 slots, 6 USB 3.1 ports, and HD-Audio and Gigabit LAN ports. Each mobo has different configuration. For example, some has HDMI, DVI ports, some has D-Sub ports and/or M.2 slots, and some not.) ASRock Z170 Mobo Family

Z170 motherboards from ASRock are all in black boxes. For market segments, ASRock provides Extreme, Gaming, and OC Formula series. For examples, Extreme series includes: Extreme 7+, Extreme 6, and Extreme 4. Gaming series includes: Gaming K6. And OC Formula series (Not in the photo below) is designed for Overclocking Enthusiasts by Nick Shih, a famous overclocker in the world.

In the computer retail stores, there are Z170 PRO4、EXTREME4 (in the standard pizza cases), and GAMING K6, EXTREME6, EXTREME7+ (hand-carry pizza cases). ASRock gives 3-year plus 1-year (need to register your product) warranty. The GAMING K6 is 5-year warranty. All made in Vietnam. The clear “Super Alloy” on the package describes that the motherboard is designed with stability and reliability for best quality.

All ASRock Z170 mobos are equipped with LGA 1151 sockets for Skylake CPUs, DIMMs for DDR4 memory modules, and also HD-Audio, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.1, M.2 are available. These mobos also equipped with DVI, HDMI, and/or DisplayPort ports for video out via Integrated GPU.
